Artist Statement
When I paint a landscape my aim is to show the viewer my vision of a special place, not necessarily what a casual tourist might see. I attempt to impart the essence of a place rather than merely depicting a scene. Still lifes are a joy to paint. Subject matter is always readily available and the light does not change before you can capture the image. However, I still attempt to create a painting with feeling - the feeling I get from viewing the subject. Whatever the subject, my goal is to produce paintings that are not "postcard" views but will intrigue the viewer and prolong interest.
Education
Regina Murphy is a longtime resident of Oklahoma. She has studied at Oklahoma City University; Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, LA, and LA Tech Rome, at Rome, Italy. Also, she has had may workshops with local and nationally-known instructors. Also she has participated in foreign sketching trips to Italy, Holland, France, Morocco, Bali, China, Maui, Mexico and Guatemala.
