Artist Statement

Bryan Dahlvang began his study of Fine Art with the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and completed his BFA at Oklahoma City University in 1997. Since then he has exhibited in over seventy locations. He has also been listed in Art In America magazine’s Guide to Galleries, Museums and Artists. Currently, Bryan works as a Graphic Designer for the Federal Aviation Administration, and teaches drawing, painting, and junk-sculpture at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art in his spare time. He also enjoys painting portraits, teaching drawing lessons at various Libraries, and participating in art-related fund-raising activities. Most of his artwork relates to childhood memories or personal reflections, which are sometimes represented by whimsical figures, eerie mixed media illustrations or evocative found –object assemblages.

I appreciate your comment.
I have a neighbor who is a zoologist, and he gives me a lot of insects that he catches in his traps. Otherwise, I find things on the ground while walking, or people bring things to me to make art out of them. Pretty flattering when someone brings a dead mouse to me, or a skull of some sort.
No animals were harmed as a result of my artwork.

i love this one. your use of animal parts gets me on a really visceral level. i normally wouldn’t condone using these types of materials, but i guess it’s ok if the little critters were already dead when you found them :) thanks!
